Cape Atlantis Shells
Building a premium identity for a niche, sustainable landscaping brand
The Challenge
Cape Atlantis Shells LLC had a genuinely interesting product — crushed clamshells for driveways and landscapes — but no visual identity to match. Based in New Jersey and entering a market dominated by generic lawn supply companies, the business needed a brand that felt premium, coastal, and eco-conscious without veering into clichéd beach-kitsch. The founder came to me with the idea of looking credible from day one.

Strategy & Positioning
The core tension in this brand was bridging industrial supply with lifestyle aspiration. Crushed clamshells are a practical, sustainable alternative to gravel — but the customer making that choice is someone who cares about curb appeal and environmental impact equally. The brand needed to speak to both without trying to be two different things.

We landed on a positioning rooted in coastal craftsmanship — natural, refined, and rooted in a specific place. "Cape Atlantis" already suggested something mythic and oceanic; the visual identity leaned into that heritage while keeping things clean enough to live on a work van or a business card without losing legibility.

Identity System
Building a logo system for real-world flexibility from the start. A primary horizontal lockup handles signage and letterhead; a compact secondary mark works for smaller applications; a standalone icon anchors social media and favicon contexts. Each mark draws from the same shell-and-wave visual language without redundancy.

Typography is grounded and confident — chosen to feel established rather than trendy, reflecting a business that will be around for decades. The color palette stays close to nature: coastal neutrals with enough contrast to hold up on print production.

Van Decals as the Hero Touchpoint
For a local delivery business, the van is the brand. It's the most-seen surface by far — rolling through neighborhoods, parked in driveways, sitting outside job sites. Focused on the decal design: vector files were prepared for print production alongside Photoshop mockups to give the printer and client a clear, accurate preview before processing.

Deliverables
Full brand identity system including primary, secondary, and tertiary marks; color palette; typeface selection; van decals (production-ready vectors + mockups); business cards; letterhead; social media assets; and a website.

Outcome
Cape Atlantis Shells launched with a brand that looks and feels like a premium, established company — not a startup finding its footing. The identity system scales cleanly from a social media profile to the side of a delivery van, giving the business a consistent, professional presence across every customer touchpoint.
